The Council gave a hearty welcome to George McGovern, our 11th Scout Executive on September 1, 2018.

George previously served as the Deputy Regional Director for the Southern Region of the BSA and as Scout Executive of the Gulf Ridge and Flint River Councils. He started his career as a Scouting professional working in positions of increasing responsibility with the Middle Tennessee Council.

George was born in Philadelphia, PA, but grew up in Raleigh, NC.  He received a Bachelor of Science Degree from Randolph Macon College in Ashland, VA before receiving a Master of Science Degree from Tennessee Tech University in Cookeville, TN. While at Randolph Macon College he played Division II Basketball and served as a Resident Assistant and lab assistant.

George and his wife Karen have four boys, Wesley, Blake, Garrett, and Landon, and George has also been actively involved in Scouting by serving as a Cub Scout and Boy Scout leader with his boys.  George is an Eagle Scout, Vigil Honor, St. George Emblem recipient, has been a member of various Rotary Clubs throughout his career, and is active in his church.
