In October 2017, the Boy Scouts of America announced a new program that will allow girls to join Cub Scouting in 2018. Cub Scout dens will be single-gender – all boys or all girls. In addition, it was announced that a program for girls age 11 to 17 will be introduced in 2019 that uses the same curriculum as the current Boy Scout program and allows girls to earn the Eagle Scout award. The traditionally outstanding core Scouting program for boys will be maintained as the new Family Scouting program is implemented.
