Congratulations to Auggie B

Congratulations to Auggie B., Winner of the Territory 15 Service Project of the Year Award

In the fall and winter of 2022, Auggie B., with Troop 1829, began working on a large Eagle Service Project at Woodland Cemetery in Richmond. This historically African American cemetery opened in 1916 and is the final resting place of Arthur Ashe, Leslie Garland Bolling, Zenobia Gilpin, John Jasper, and Charles Thaddeus Russel. Auggie worked to create a dedicated Veteran’s Memorial, pave a new memorial fountain, and rebuild and beautify over 400 feet of existing walkways.

In February 2023, Auggie was presented the Glenn A. & Melinda W. Adams Service Project of the Year Award, which recognizes valuable service of an exceptional nature by an Eagle Scout candidate to a religious institution, school, or community.  By earning this special award at a local Council level, Auggie’s project then became eligible for consideration at the Territory level, which it was awarded in March of 2024.  Territory recipients receive a $300 scholarship for future educational purposes or to be used to attend a national or international Scouting event or activity, and are then entered into consideration for the National level award.  The National recipient will receive $3,500!

We are thrilled for Auggie to receive this level of recognition for his important and lasting contribution to the history of Central Virginia.  The improvements at Woodland Cemetery will continue well into the future, thanks to Auggie!

We hope you’ll join us in congratulating Auggie on his exceptional Eagle Service Project and the hard-earned accolades he has received as a result.  We wish him the best of luck as his project is considered for the National Glenn A. & Melinda W. Adams Service Project of the Year Award!
