This year’s Heart of Virginia Council Friends of Scouting Dinner, held on Thursday, February 23, 2012, was a huge success. During the evening Scouting paid tribute to two American heros, Col. James B. Hickey, US Army (ret.) and Lt Jason Redman, USN, SEAL Officer. Paul Galanti was be honored with the “Good Citizen Award”.
Col. Hickey was the US Army commander for Operation Red Dawn which captured Saddam Hussein near Tikrit, Iraq. Highly decorated for his service to our country over 28 years. Col. Hicheky spoke about preparation, leadership, and honor.
While commanding an assualt to capture an Al Qaeda leader, LT Redman and his team came unter heavy fire. Redman was severly wounded and has endured 35 operations in his recovery. He spoke commitment, sacrifice, and service .
CMDR Paul E. Galanti, USN (ret) was honored as recipient of the Heart of Virginia Council Boy Scouts of America “Good
Citizen Award”. Galanti was recently appointed the Commissioner of Veterans Services for the Commonwealth of Virginia by Governor Bob McDonnell.
