What is Cub Scout Day Camp?

Day Camp is an organized program for Cub Scouts and Webelos Scouts under certified leadership, at an approved site.  Our Day Camp is held at Deep Run Park in Henrico County.  It runs for one full week, Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 4 PM, with early drop off starting at 8:15 AM and late pick-up until 5:00 PM each day.

Who Attends Day Camp?

Cub Scout Day Camp is a unique program; it is usually the first major activity for Scouts after graduating from their previous rank. Registered Cub Scouts who are rising Kindergarteners through rising 5th graders can attend. We also welcome non-Scout buddies who are rising K-5 to attend as well.

Please note that all Lions (rising kindergarteners) and Tigers (rising first-graders) must be accompanied by an adult partner. This event is hosted by Heart of Virginia Council, Boy Scouts of America, and is open to registered Scouts and the public. Membership is not required.

What Activities Will Be Available?

The Day Camp program contains a well-balanced variety of activities. Typical stations include Archery, BBs, Sports, Crafts, Fishing, Board Games, and Nature/STEM. Each year of Day Camp has a different theme, so crafts and station activities do change year-to-year based on that theme.

Who Runs Day Camp?

Just like a Cub Scout Pack, Day Camp is run by volunteers!  We have numerous volunteer opportunities at Cub Scout Day Camp.  Adults and Scouts BSA youth aged 14 and older can serve as staff at Day Camp.  We also allow Scouts BSA youth aged 11 to 13 to serve as Junior Staff.  All staff positions at Day Camp are volunteer-only.  We are able to keep costs low for parents by utilizing volunteers in all roles.  A Day Camp Committee meets year-round to plan and put on a successful Day Camp.  If you are interested in volunteering at Day Camp or serving on the Day Camp Committee, email bill.givler@scouting.org.
