Peer-to-Peer Recruitment Cards
We’ve personalized recruitment cards for Scouts to bring to school and practice to make joining easy for their friends! Our template is not program-specific and prints 10 cards per page (formatted for Avery 5371 Business Cards – Wide). A quick search of “peer to peer” in the BSA Brand Center will return numerous program-specific designs.
Cub Scout Recruitment Page
This resource helps Scouts learn more about recruiting their friends in person, via email, using social media, and even school events! Scouts can also learn about earning the Recruiter Strip badge and connect with the greater Scouting community.

Applications
The very first step in recruiting new membership is to ensure you have applications available in the format that best suits their needs. Please visit the Heart of Virginia Council Leadership Center at 8090 Villa Park Drive in Henrico to stock up on printed youth and adult membership applications (and other important documentation). See below for additional options.
Den, Pack & Troop Driven Recruitment
We conduct Join Scouting Night events each fall, but your den, pack, or troop can hold additional recruiting events that leverage social media and word-of-mouth marketing to invite new families out to one or more of the fun activities that your unit is already doing. In fact, we’ve created a guide to help Cub and Scouts BSA leaders hold such a recruitment event.
Heart of Virginia Council LinkTr.ee
Use our LinkTr.ee to direct potential new families to special resources, like our Join page, New Family Welcome packet (in both English and Spanish), newsletter subscription site, and much more! Save our QR code and include it on your flyers, websites, and social media promotions.
Online Registration Helps
Scouting America offers on online application process for youth and adults that can be completed from start to finish without a single piece of paper changing hands. This allows prospective members and leaders to register and pay in a way that’s convenient for them, and it creates a more efficient and user-friendly registration experience for units, districts, and councils.
Recruiter Strip
Have your Scouts recruited new members for your unit? They’ve likely earned the Recruiter Strip, a special patch that recognizes youth who have encouraged a friend (or two) to join them on their Scouting adventures! Any youth member — in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing or Sea Scouts — who gets a friend, classmate or relative to sign up for Scouting can receive the red, white and blue patch.
Recruitment Resources Page
Scouting.org offers a collection of resources to enhance your unit’s recruitment efforts. From customizable flyers and social media calendars to informative webinars, it’s packed with valuable tools and insights to support your success.
Scouting America Social Media Playbook
The Social Media Playbook equips Scout leaders and volunteers with step-by-step guidance to effectively leverage social media for communication, recruitment, retention, and community engagement within Scouting America. It includes best practices for content creation, platform-specific strategies (for Facebook, X, and YouTube), branding guidelines, and recommendations for using visuals and videos to tell the Scouting story. Whether you’re new to social media or refining your strategy, this playbook helps you plan campaigns, share Scouting’s impact, and maintain a safe and positive online presence.
