Local Scout Earns 2018 Trail’s End Top Popcorn Seller in the Nation!
Beck started selling popcorn as a Tiger Cub in 2011 with Cub Scout Pack 770. His first year in the pack, Beck sold $1,800 in Trail’s End Popcorn by selling to his neighbors and going door to door. Each year, Beck continued to grow in confidence and skills, setting even higher goals for the next year. In 2014 as a Webelos Scout, Beck became the top seller in Virginia; a recognition he has kept for the last four years. In 2016 and 2017, Beck was recognized by Trail’s End as the 2nd Top Seller in the Nation. He was also the #1 Online Selling Scout in the Nation from 2016 to 2018.
A strong believer in serving others, Beck shares his selling techniques with other Scouts to help encourage them to achieve their goals. This young entrepreneur believes in paying it forward, setting goals, and working hard. This year his hard work and strong salesmanship skills paid off. Beck sold a record-breaking $88,073 in Trail’s End Popcorn in the Fall 2018 Product Sale earning him first place in overall sales for the entire nation. Beck also broke the record for the highest amount sold during a calendar year in the Trail’s End National Fundraising Program’s history. This puts Beck’s eight-year popcorn sale total over $200,000! That’s a lot of popcorn!
One of the things Beck likes best about the fundraising program, is the opportunity it provides him to serve his community and help others. Beck explains, “One of the most rewarding ways I have been able to serve our community is by supporting ScoutReach. ScoutReach gives under-privileged, at-risk youth the rich experience of friendship, courage, and adventure that I’ve encountered through Scouting. I’m very grateful for the support of everyone who has helped me raise almost $30,000 for ScoutReach in the last three years. It feels really good to help others, and I couldn’t do it without you. With your continued support and generosity, I can help more kids in my community experience the many benefits of Scouting.” Between 2015-2017, Beck generously donated $30,000 of his popcorn commission to local ScoutReach units.
Beck would like to thank all of his supporters for helping him reach this tremendous milestone. Every little bit helped. The difference between the first and second place winners was a mere $56. Beck’s mom, April, shares this with his supporters: “Every single person can say they were a part of this.”
