Camp Eagle Point
Located on Kerr Reservoir (Buggs Island Lake) in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, Eagle Point is a short-term camping facility. It is used by individual units and districts for camporees. This beautiful piece of property is about 120 acres over three peninsulas and is leased from the Army Corps of Engineers. There is a boat ramp just outside the property but no drinking water source so units must provide their own drinking water. It is primitive in nature with only pit latrines.
It is patrolled by the Corps of Engineers; persons in the camp without a reservation are subject to being removed. The council property encompasses the finger-shaped points that jut out into the Kerr Reservoir between the water tower and Eagle Point Landing.
This camp is basically a wilderness short-term camp. There is no drinking water source.
Short Term Camping
Camp Eagle Point is available year-round for short-term unit camping. Camp Eagle Point is a beautiful, secluded area ideal for wilderness camping. There are two distinct camping areas:
Camping Area 1
Camping Area 1 is on the easternmost point in Camp Eagle Point. It is the most developed of the three areas, having one picnic shelter and two latrines. There is room for four average-sized units to camp in Camping Area 1, although two units will have to share each latrine. Camping Area 1 can be reached by vehicle, although the road may become difficult in wet weather.
Since Camping Area 1 is the most used area in Camp Eagle Point, units camping in this area must use the latrines provided; units will not dig temporary latrines in Camping Area 1.
Camping Area 2
Camping Area 2 is on the middle point in Camp Eagle Point. It is more rugged than Camping Area 1 in that there are no latrines or facilities at Camping Area 2 other than one picnic shelter. There is room for two units in Camping Area 2, but only one would have the use of the picnic shelter.
Camping Area 2 can be reached by vehicle, although the road may become impassible in wet weather.
