Scoutbook Plus Enhances Leader Permissions for Greater Flexibility

Scoutbook Plus is improving how units manage access and leader roles by replacing its connections-based system with a new position-based permissions model. This update enhances performance and ensures that leaders have access aligned with their official responsibilities, eliminating confusion caused by overly broad or limited permissions. Units can now directly adjust registered and functional positions within Scoutbook Plus, allowing leaders to perform their duties efficiently and securely.

A key new feature, the Permissions Manager, makes it simple to move leaders from one registered or functional position to another, with updates reflected within 24 hours. Certain roles, including Chartered Organization Representatives, COR/CUR Delegates, and Council Unit Representatives, can move registered leaders across all positions. Others, such as Committee Chairs, Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Venturing Advisors, Skippers, Exploring Post Advisors, and Key 3 Delegates, can move leaders into most roles except top-level positions like COR or Committee Chair.

These updates align with the Guide to Advancement and Scouting America best practices, empowering units to manage leadership assignments more effectively while maintaining proper oversight and security.

To clarify, the Permissions Manager in My.Scouting.org will no longer exist.  The new Permissions Manager in Scoutbook Plus will serve that function.

It’s also important to note that all previous permission settings will need to be reset in the new system.  Prior permissions will not always apply, and leaders might lose permissions-based access to the Scouts they lead, the reports they access, etc., until those permissions are reset in Scoutbook Plus.
