Troop 3 Celebrates 5 Years

Provisional Troop 3 Celebrates 5 Years at Camp T. Brady Saunders

Provisional Troop 3 concluded its 5th year at T. Brady Saunders the week of July 13-19. For its 5th anniversary, the troop comprised of 42 campers from 16 troops across 3 councils (Heart of Virginia, National Capital, and Colonial Virginia). This year, the provisional troop also included its largest contingent of female scouts since the program began.

Collectively, the unit earned 122 merit badges, 2 Standup Paddleboard awards, and had 10 Trailblazers and 2 C.O.P.E. participants. The troop was selected for the final Retreat Cup of the summer and was recognized with the Honor Troop designation with its patrols also earning Honor Patrol awards.

“It’s always amazing to watch these scouts come together so quickly to form and act as a troop,” noted Wyn Bedall, Troop 3 Scoutmaster. “They start off not knowing each other on Sunday afternoon but, by Monday, they’ve applied the skills they learned in their home units to really support each other and perform together.”

Provisional Troop 3 is sponsored by the Nawakwa Lodge of the Order of the Arrow. Since its inception in 2021 it has enabled 205 campers from units throughout the Mid-Atlantic to have a summer camp experience at Camp T. Brady Saunders.
