Summer camp is more than just a place for Scouts to get away from their electronics and have fun with their friends in the outdoors. It instills self-confidence, leadership, and teamwork through challenging activities, team sports, relationship building, and new experiences. A week at summer camp prepares a young person and builds vital skills to succeed in life. Many families cannot afford to send their Scout to camp. The Heart of Virginia has established a Campership Fund to help those families. You can send a Scout on an adventure they will never forgot, give them memories to treasure forever, and provide opportunities to create lifelong friendships.

Do you have a Scouting Mentor that you would like to recognize?  If there is a Scout leader that helped your son along the way to Arrow of Light or Eagle Scout that you feel deserves a little extra praise. A great way to recognize that person is with the new Scout Mentor program. The Council will present a special mentor pin to the awardee and post a note of gratitude on the Council’s website, newsletter and Facebook page. You can sign up at this link and someone will contact you about the most appropriate way of making a brief but meaningful presentation. The Scout Mentor’s name will also be included on the mentor list on the Council website.

Friends of Scouting Family Campaign

The Friends of Scouting Family Campaign is the largest fund raising effort the Heart of Virginia Council conducts.  This annual giving campaign provides funding for camps,  training, literature, the Scout Shop, professional and volunteer support, liability insurance for leaders, accident insurance for Scouts,  and many other services.  Support of Scouting through the Family Campaign is a way of targeting your support by investing in services for one Scout, two Scouts or more.  Volunteers provide information and conduct meetings that show just where the money goes and the significance of supporting Scouting through this effort.  For more information on this program and to find out how you can assist in the many volunteer functions in the campaign, please hover and click on the ISupport icon or click here.

Friends of Scouting Dinner

The Friends of Scouting Dinner is an annual event that takes place in February and is attended by many Scouters, Community partners, business supporters and others who are interested in investing in the youth of the area.  The event features a speaker who through their own experiences can address what Scouting and the various Scouting programs mean to them individually or how the influence of Scouting has impacted the lives of themselves and/or others.  The dinner is a catered affair that provides opportunities to contribute to the Scouting experience of many in the Heart of Virginia Council service area.  For more information about the dinner hover and click on the FOS Dinner icon or click here
