Baylor Dickerson named the 2011 National Eagle Scout by VFW

 

Baylor_Dickerson Ashland native Baylor Mackenzie Dickerson was named the 2011 National Eagle Scout by the Veterans of Foreign Wars. This past May, Eagle Scout Dickerson was also named the 2011 Eagle Scout of the Year Runner Up by the American Legion. Both national awards are preceded by state Eagle Scout of the Year honors for both veterans’ organizations. Scholarship purses for all awards amount to $10,000. Baylor is the son of Malcolm and Mary Dickerson of Ashland.

Sponsored by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9808 and American Legion Post 175, both located in Mechanicsville, Virginia, Eagle Scout Dickerson advanced to complete in a combined nationwide field of over 2,000 Eagle Scout. For his Eagle Scout project, Baylor collected over $11,000.00 in clothing, hygiene and grooming items to be given without cost to service members under treatment at the US Army Regional Hospital, Landsthuld, Germany. Volunteering at the hospital, Baylor assisted wounded service personnel recovering at Landsthuld from war injuries sustained in Iraqi and Afghanistan. He is a Venture Scout and President of Crew 7, located in Ashland. After graduating from Hanover High School, Class of 2011, Baylor will attend Bridgewater College, majoring in biology, participating in DIV III NCAA Track and Field.
