100th Anniversary

Centennial Anniversary of the Council

2013 marks the 100th Anniversary of your Scout Council.  The entity today known as the Heart of Virginia council was chartered as the “Richmond, Virginia Council, Inc” in 1913 by John Stewart Bryan, D.W. Durrett, and 60 prominent citizens and community leaders.

On July 12, 2013, we turn 100 years old, and we plan to celebrate in Grand Style.  You’ll see 100th Anniversary themed patches for many of our events, and lots more information about Centennial Celebration events on and in future issues of The Courier.

The Anniversary year kicks off with our Friends of Scouting Banquet in February.  Make sure you put July 12, 2013 on your calendar – we are hosting a picnic and council birthday party at camp.  Make sure that October 18-20, 2013 is also blocked off for the Centennial Anniversary Encampment, a mega-council camporee for Packs, Troops, and Crews.

We are proud and excited to showcase our two very special 100th Anniversary supporters; MWV is our 100th Anniversary Celebration Sponsor, and Media General is the Presenting Sponsor of the 2013 FOS Dinner. In our centennial year, these local corporations have demonstrated extraordinary generosity in support of Scouting’s character programs and outdoor adventures! They are helping to prepare our youth for life!
